Mount Shasta Union School District

What is an LCAP?

Local Control & Accountability Plan (LCAP)

What is an LCAP? It is a 3-year district plan that is reassessed annually by parents, students, school staff, and partners to help school sites decide how to spend their money to support students, similar to a roadmap that shows what the school’s goals are and how they plan to reach them.

What does the LCAP do?

  1. Focus on Students – The LCAP is designed to improve education by making sure schools focus on student needs, especially for groups like English learners, foster youth, and low-income students.
  2. Community Input – Parents, students, teachers, and community members can share their ideas about what the school needs most.
  3. Funding with a Purpose – Schools get state funding, and the LCAP helps decide how that money is used—whether it’s for more teachers, after-school programs, mental health services, or technology in classrooms.
  4. Progress Tracking – The plan is reviewed and updated every year to see if the school is making progress and to make changes if needed.
